Our care home design services cover new purpose-built homes, extensions that add bedrooms to an existing home, and conversions of large houses or other buildings into care use. A care home is a home, a workplace and a regulated service at the same time, so the layout has to support all three. Corridor widths, bedroom and en-suite sizes, staff sightlines, sluice and laundry positions and the fire strategy all decide what the building can achieve. We design them together in one coordinated 3D model.

Every care home scheme is modelled in Revit and rendered in Enscape, so operators and staff can review bedrooms, lounges and corridors before drawings are finalised.
Drawings and documents are checked against the council's validation list, so the application is not held up by missing parking, servicing or neighbour information.
ArchEvolve works with councils across the UK remotely over Teams, reviewing local plan policy on care uses, parking and design before the scheme is fixed.
Alex Page runs your care home project personally from first consultation to construction drawings. No handoffs between teams and no junior staff on your scheme.
The service covers the initial brief, a 3D model of the site or existing building, layout options, resident-focused design development with Enscape visuals, planning drawings and submission, Building Regulations drawings and a construction package. You can appoint us for the whole process or for individual stages.
No. In England the Care Quality Commission registers care providers and inspects them against standards that include suitable premises, but it does not approve drawings. Adding beds or changing premises may affect the provider’s registration, so we recommend involving your registered manager early. We design to support those expectations and the Building Regulations.
In most cases, yes. Care homes fall within Use Class C2 and do not have the householder permitted development rights that apply to houses, so extensions usually need a planning application. We prepare the drawings and manage the submission through our planning service for developers.
We keep corridors short with a clear destination at the end, use colour contrast on doors, handrails and toilet seats, avoid busy floor patterns and reflective finishes, bring in plenty of daylight and give residents safe access to a garden. Bedroom doors can be made recognisable so residents find their own room more easily.
Often, yes. A change of use from a house to a care home needs planning permission, and the building must be adapted for lifts, accessible bathrooms, fire compartmentation and staff facilities. A feasibility study shows how many bedrooms the building can realistically provide before you commit.
New work must meet Part B of the Building Regulations, and Approved Document B treats care homes differently from houses because many residents cannot evacuate unaided. Layouts are usually planned around fire compartments that allow residents to be moved horizontally to safety. Once open, the operator must keep a fire risk assessment. Our building regulations drawings cover this detail.
Yes. We hold design reviews over Teams so your care manager, staff and owners can comment on the layout, and we coordinate the model with structural engineers, services engineers, fire engineers and planning consultants. Enscape visuals make it easier for non-technical staff to give useful feedback early.
Anywhere in the UK. ArchEvolve works remotely over Teams, with site visits arranged where a project needs them. Our 3D visualisations mean you can review the design in detail without travelling, and the same Revit model carries through to the construction drawings.
